For free-response questions, grade your practice answer with the official scoring guidelines and enter the percent of points you earned (for example 3 of 4 points = 75).

How the AP® Statistics composite is calculated

Each section is converted to a percentage and weighted using the College Board's published exam weights:

SectionFormatWeight
Multiple choice42 questions, 90 min50%
FRQ 1 (practices 1 & 2)Multi-focus12.5%
FRQ 2 (practices 3 & 4)Multi-focus12.5%
FRQ 3 (inference)Test or interval12.5%
FRQ 4 (practices 2, 3 & 4)Multi-focus12.5%

The free-response section is 90 minutes and 50% of the score. The College Board hasn't published per-question weights for the new format, so each question counts equally (12.5%).

The weighted composite (0–100) is compared with estimated score cutoffs:

AP® scoreEstimated composite
570 and above
457–69
344–56
233–43
1Below 33

These cutoffs are estimates based on past AP® Statistics exams. The College Board doesn't publish its raw-score conversion, and the new 2027 format may shift it. If you're within 3 points of a boundary, the calculator shows both possible scores.

Frequently asked questions

What changed on the AP Statistics exam for 2027?

The revised exam has 42 multiple-choice questions and 4 free-response questions, each section 90 minutes and 50% of the score. The investigative task is gone, and the whole exam is taken in the Bluebook app.

What are the four free-response questions?

Question 1 is multi-focus on practices 1 and 2, question 2 on practices 3 and 4, question 3 is inference (a hypothesis test or confidence interval), and question 4 is multi-focus on practices 2, 3 and 4.

What percentage do you need for a 5 on AP Stats?

Historically about 70% of the composite. The 2027 format is new, so cutoffs may shift; this calculator shows a range when you're near a boundary.

Are old AP Statistics calculators still accurate?

Not for 2027. Older calculators assume 40 multiple-choice questions and 6 free-response questions including the investigative task, which no longer exists.
